I was browsing this website Gov.Ph Forums when I came across this very interesting topic: What are the top accounting schools in the Philippines?
I read the contents of the thread and I was sooooo enraged. SOME, if not most, of the people that have posted in the said forums (the same topic) are a bunch of morons. How dare them exclude UST in the list? They talked trash against UST like there's no tomorrow. And they also trashtalked against other schools. And they call themselves "intelligent people"? They're a disgrace to their schools.
Good thing Thomasians show grace and composure under nasty situations like this. A good example is this Thomasian whose screen name is jbcourier. He rebutted all those nasty comments in a nice and educated way -- the THOMASIAN way.
And I quote...

Hello. I am an accountancy student in UST.
I have two reasons for posting:
1. answer the thread based on my OPINIONS and OBSERVATIONS.
2. respond to some other posters' posts.
Well, for me it's...
De La Salle University
University of the Philippines
University of Santo Tomas
That is in no particular ranking though.

I don't think so. As a student of UST Accountancy, I could tell you that the training here is good. The system is quite harsh
though. Most of us, Even I, know that UST is "lax", like how another poster so wrote, in its admission policies--mediocrity can enter our college, but the survival system is rigorous. It's quite easy to enter but it's not that easy to survive. I am trying to say, however, that UP's or DLSU's systems are otherwise. I don't know what to say, I don't study there anyway.

UST seldom makes it? I don't think so. In fact, UST topnotches CPA board exams, especially in October. I am aware of that.
Our college does a way for us to know if our college is doing good or not--based on statistical data. (I think most accounting schools, too, does so.) However, that's your opinion. 'UST seldom makes it'. Maybe we're using the same word--'seldom'--with different meaning.

far 2nd- UST"
"...the third is hundred notches away"
Ouch. That 'far' adjective hurts. It's not FAR, I think. And it's not always 2nd. UST Accountancy is doing good enough and it's unfair to say we're 'FAR' 2nd. Sorry, I disagree.
I don't know which school you're saying 'third in hundred notches away'. But, again, UST is not that far...not even 'hundred notches away'. That's unfair.

"PLEASE STOP mentioning UST as a good accountancy school.
PLEASE STOP placing UST to the league of UP, DLSU and ADMU.
ACCOUNTANCY- DLSU AND UP. PERIOD."
Ohh, c'mon. ALL CAPS. It looks like you're into something...something mad. Okay fine, in behalf of UST, as one of its students at that, I humbly would not say that UST's in the "league" of UP, DLSU, and ADMU. If that's what you want. It's all yours...your TOP 3, I guess? But please, don't underestimate UST's accountancy school. It may not always be the best, but UST Accountancy is not "not good", therefore, it is good. It's still one of the 'best' accountancy schools in the country.
I recommend you to read the title of the thread. It says "TOP ACCOUNTING SCHOOLS" and NOT "TOP 2 ACCOUNTING SCHOOLS". I hope you could understand that. Peace, man. Stay cool.

Let me enlighten you. UST offers its accountancy program for 4 years. It compressed the supposed-to-be 5-year accounting curriculum into 8 semesters and 2 mandatory summers (3rd year and 4th year). UST doesn't usually take the May CPA board exam because senior accountancy students don't graduate in March. After 4th year 2nd semester, they still have to take their 4th year mandatory summer as a part of the curriculum, so they couldn't take the May CPA board. And the closest board exam after graduation is October. UST Accountancy tops in October CPA exams. Those are all facts.

Let's be real. DLSU is a fine school but that's just a dumping ground for UPCAT rejects.
If you're super smart, go to UP. If you're not that smart to get in, go to DLSU (or AdMU). "
That's mean. It's quite disturbing. UP is good, I have no problems with that. But that doesn't give you the license to throw other schools offensive words. Be fair. Besides, UP is not the best in every field. Each school has its own strengths.

To give justice for UST, I think I have said enough but let me say something more. It's nice to come from a school considered as THE BEST. It's nice being proud of where you study. We can say all our: "my school is good," "it is excellent", "it is one of the bests", or even "it's the best", all we want. However, it's absolutely unfair to step on other schools' names only for the sole purpose of adding up prestige for your school, or maybe, for your self?...considering that you study there.
What are the top accounting schools? There are, indeed, top accounting schools--based on the board exam ratings, but these accounting schools don't really 100% ensure students to be the best of what they could. As a student, it is still, partly, your responsibility to develop your potentials guided, of course, by your school. School is still, always, a factor, yes. But if we cling too much to this belief, we lose our senses of striving to be the best that we can be.
I am from UST College of Accountancy and I couldn't say that it's the "perfect" accounting school but I know very well that my school isn't 'far notches away' nor a 'far 2nd'. It's one of the bests, but it may not be the best. Who knows? Again, for me, it's...
